Technology in the workplace

Technology is an ever increasing aspect of our lives in all facets of society. It is hard to say where we will be in regards to technology in the future, but it is apparent that where ever we go we will always be in contact with a new technological advancement. This increase in technology is touching every part of our lives, from making a cup of coffee, to the way we work. Technological advancements have not just started recently, they have been increasing at an exponential rate since the beginning of time. These technological advances, for the most part, are embraced with open arms by many in our society. These warm embraces, although, are bridled with negative opinions by others. The productivity increases are one aspect that is looked upon fairly with this increased technology, but at what cost is this increased productivity coming? We can see by looking in the history of technology that although some may view these costs as unacceptable, there is no stopping the onrushing wave that is Technology.

History of Technology in the Workplace

The history of technological advances can be characterized by four separate levels throughout time: simple tool technology, caft echnology, mass production technology, and fianally, microchip technology. These four waves of technology have played a large part in our forward march to a more productive workplace. Simple tool technology was the first wave of technological advances. This particular wave was characterized by the implementation of handtools, which were made from rock and bone, and woven baskets to store food items. Included in this wave was also the specific knowledge used to make such innovative tools for the time. Individuals needed to know where to find certain stones that would work in tool making; this was a crucial part in the development of early societies, and the way we work.
