Workplace Harassment

Harassment in the workplace can be an uncomfortable subject. Chances are, your workplace has went over the outline with you of what is considered harassment and how to handle it. Many people are uncomfortable disclosing harassment with fears they will be punished or lose your job. It is even more frustrating when the harassment comes from your superior. My article focused on ten ways to deal with psychical or verbal harassment.

People seem to forget that being verbally abused is also a form of harassment. Employers or employees must be fair to you and approach you fairly. Workplace harassment is any form of conduct that makes you feel uncomfortable. Examples of harassment can be about gender, family status, race, weight, medical issues, sexual, and many more.

When reported, your employer must take all steps to investigate and handle the harassment. The business must also educate its employee’s on what is considered harassment and the steps to report it.

If you are not comfortable going to your supervisor, or it is someone above you who is harassing you, you may want to seek out your Human Resources department. They are there to assist you and provide unbiased and private help in such situations. Speaking with someone in this position can be more comfortable than speaking with another employee or supervisor.

A general rule of thumb for harassment is if you feel uncomfortable, there is a reason and you need to report it. You need to feel safe and comfortable at your workplace. It is your right.
