In the psychiatric field, there are many disorders to look out for. These disorders include schizophrenia, depression, mania, anxiety disorder, and Tourette syndrome. There are many theories as to what causes these disorders and diseases but science proves some factual causes as well. There are numerous ways to treat each of these diseases or disorders, and they differ from one to the other.

Schizophrenia usually presents itself in adolescence or early adulthood. The spectrum of symptoms is wide and varied. The symptoms include delusions, which make them believe something is one way when it is not. Another symptom could be hallucinations, which would cause the ill person to see things that aren’t actually there. Hallucinations can also make the patient hear voices that tell them to do things or say disturbing things. People who suffer schizophrenia can also use incoherent speech, and ramble on about things that make no sense. Sometimes these patients become catatonic and do not react to events around them. They often have an absence of emotion. Alogia is another possibility and this is the reduction or absence of speech. Avolition can happen as well, and is the reduction or absence of motivation. Some studies implicate birth complications, early infections, autoimmune reactions, toxins, traumatic injury, and stress to have caused schizophrenia. These factors are thought to have altered the normal course of neurodevelopment. Another theory is childhood trauma to have caused schizophrenia. One drug that was used to treat schizophrenia was chlorpromazine. This drug was first used as an antihistamine. It is used because it is a calming drug, and most schizophrenics are frantic.
