Situational Surveys

When an individual determines the necessity to contact individuals to find out their opinion or experience with a particular topic the surveyor can utilize a number of different means to conduct the survey. Some of the different possible surveys are: Computer-administered telephone surveys which has an individual run a survey by setting up the calls through the computer to ensure the interviewer knows the questions to ask and assists in inputting data; another survey is the computer-administered telephone survey which is completely free of a human interviewer where the computer calls a number calls a number and the automated questions are asked and the answers are submitted into the database for later tabulation; another survey is the personal interview which is a two-way conversation between the surveyor/interviewer and the participant; and the web-based questionnaire is a cheaper solution because it is cheap to create and operate and reaches a large group on the World-Wide-Web (Cooper, & Schindler, 2011).

During this discussion, the personal interview, telephone survey, and the self-administered questionnaire will be discussed to show which survey is better in different situations. In the first prompt, a surveyor is looking to complete a survey of residents in a particular subdivision to understand why they moved into the area along with positives and negatives of the subdivision. I believe that a personal survey would be a better idea, because you can have the interviewer go door to door and ask the preset questions since a subdivision generally has a few hundred homes. Self-administered questionnaires are the best bet, because these surveys can be sent to each company to have the warehouse personnel complete and put into a locked box that the management will not view or it can be conducted on computers if available for employees to utilize.
