The first chapter talked about the famine and how people were struggling for food. There were fatal deaths and for three months before each new crop was harvested a third of the people went hungry. It went on to talk about how their living conditions.

III.

1(a). During the autumn and winter of 1846, Ireland became consumed by the famine.

1(b). 90% of the deaths were due to consequential diseases. Typhus which is (known in America as “Irish Fever”). The overall morality as a proportion of the population, Ireland’s “Great Hunger” was the most murderous famines in history. page 122

2(a). The Queen’s birthday, 24 May, which became Empire Day in 1904, was marked with celebration and salutes, levees and soirees. The Queen’s face was everywhere, appearing not only in portraits, photographs, lantern slides, advertisement and stained-glass windows, but on stamps, coins, badges, plaques, china, even condoms.

2(b). Queen Victoria appealed more to the natives than did Jesus Christ. The Queen was represented sitting on a golden throne under a crimson canopy, heralded by angels above and receiving glittering princely tribute below Page 143
