Small molecule kinase inhibitors are categorized as enzyme inhibitor that inhibits the mechanism of action of protein kinases. Protein kinases are the enzymes which add phosphate group to a protein or any other organic molecule. Phosphate group posses the capability of inhibiting the functioning of a protein. In a protein, phosphate group is added to the different amino acids such as threonine, serine or tyrosine amino acid for inhibition of protein functioning mechanisms. Therefore, these protein inhibitors are categorized on the basis of phosphorylation of amino acid which is inhibited. Phosphorylation of amino acids forms a necessary step in tumor progression and other inflammatory diseases hence inhibition of phosphorylation is proving useful in treatment of such diseases. Until now over 500 different types of kinase proteins have been identified in human body and therefore constitutes of large family of proteins. Protein kinases are thus, emerging as a potential therapeutic class of drugs in the pharmaceutical industry for treatment of various cancers.

Small Kinase inhibitor market is projected to grow with an increasing potential of kinase inhibitors to block the unregulated cell cycle. Moreover, rising cancer incidences and yet unmet potential treatment is further anticipitating the inhibitors market. According to American Cancer Society, about 580,350 Americans are expected to die due to cancer by the end of 2013. Protein Kinase plays an important role in tumor progression and development. Hence many kinase inhibitors are being developed by the pharmaceutical companies according to the diseases specificity and are commercially available. Since tumors have multiple signaling pathways the inhibitors too are designed specifically to effect wide range of kinase pathways. For instance, dasatinib a tyrosine kinase inhibitor is commercially...
