3. What is the biggest challenge you see for Quizno’s in the coming decade, and what should they do about it?
All businesses and/or franchises face many challenges. Quizno’s, specifically, has many challenges coming its way, one of the biggest being convenience for the customer. Today’s fast food consumers are used to the convenience of drive-thrus, a plethora of healthier choices and numerous locations close to work or school for easier “grab and go” lunches.
The lack of drive-thrus in Quizno’s Stores is hurting their profit margins severely. Many of their competitors have the convenience of drive-thrus which is more appealing to people on the go or workers/students that have limited time for lunch. To have the ability to choose healthier sides to go with your sub sandwich (or any meal) is important to those trying to cut back or watch their weight or health. It is more likely for someone to go to Subway, which promotes healthy eating habits (even going as far as to naming their kids menu “Fresh Fit Kids”) rather than Quizno’s, which has hardly any choices on healthier sides. According to Steven Shaffer, Quizno’s former president, as of 2005 there was only one Quizno’s for every 84,000 persons in the United States. It is more likely for people to go to the nearest location while on lunch break than to drive all the way across town for a sandwich.
In order to fix their convenience problems, Quizno’s should install drive-thrus, add healthier choices to their menus and work on their location strategies. By doing these three things, Quizno’s could possibly jump their biggest competitor, Subway.
