ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

Environmental awareness is very important because people need to be aware of what they are doing to the environment around them and around the world.

The earth is undergoing rapid environmental changes because of human actions. There are huge industrial installations every year, increased in vehicle and transport emission, sprouting up large crowded cities (urbanisation), deforestation and decreasing the number of agricultural land: wide spread use of insecticides, pesticides, improper use of fertilizers and chemicals in environment are contributing factors which challenged the life of man, animals specially birds and other organisms.

Industries are causing much danger to man's life (causing air pollution), Water pollution, soil pollution, marine pollution, noise pollution, global warming, mine waste, effects of nuclear hazards are some major factors for which public awareness is necessary.

The General Assembly of the United Nations, in December 1972, established the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which leads the efforts of the United Nations family on behalf of the global environment.

We must defend and improve the human environment for present and future generations have become an imperative goal for mankind.

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Environmental awareness must sustain development and must not endanger the natural systems that support life on Earth: the atmosphere, the waters, the soils, and the living beings.
