Why is it important to use systems analysis and design methodologies when building a system? Using a system analysis and design is a proven mythology that helps businesses of all sizes to obtain the benefits of utilizing the information to its full capacity. This requirement is essential to plan, build and implement information system, which would meet any organization’s needs. By using the appropriate tools it allows you to design a system that provides structure to the system development process. Different approaches and methodologies are used such as the Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Prototyping, RAD, or Agile methodologies, which are some of the key steps to utilize system development. The necessary steps are planning, selection, analysis, design, implementation and operation. All these steps are necessary to identify and solve any problems, which provides structure in building an efficient information system.

Why not just build the system in whatever way seems to be “quick and easy?” Using this method maybe cheaper, easier and quicker, but in the short run you would have created a poorly developed system that would not meet the needs for the business; and in the long run by creating a poorly developed system would require more money and time to create a functional system for the business needs.

What value is provided by using an “engineering” approach? The value of using the engineering approach is the step-by-step approach; this will ensure that the system development is well though out, complete and comprehensible. Using the steps is sequence order will ensure that the system analysis and the design is well structured and systematic.

How might prototyping be used as part of the SDLC? Prototyping is designing and building a scaled down version of a information system model and can be developed with the CASE tool, which is a software product that automates the steps in the systems development life cycle (SDLC).
