Communication and Personality in Negotiation Paper

This negotiation guide will discuss the role of the negotiator and which strategy the negotiator will apply to this current dilemma. “Every part of our business and life requires negotiation skills. The ability to negotiate will increase our successes, open up opportunities, and improve relationships. Negotiation skills create the core of our professional and personal lives.” (Walters 2007)

The Dilemma

Being a manager for Rite Aid has its rewards and consequences. Working as management for Rite Aid, different types of issues may arise. One particular issue that management was faced with is vacation approval. The initial problem at Rite Aid started with them closing down a few low-volume stores. As a result, one of the stores that were forced to close was the store I currently worked at. The district manager gave the management team options to choose from. The options the DM designed were to either transfer to another store or take a severance pay. Most of the managers chose to transfer to another location.

Before the store closed down, I was notified that I was eligible to take a two-week vacation. So I decided to take one week off of work to take my kids to Walt Disney World. I followed the procedures in requesting the second week of July off to take my vacation. Both the store manager and the district manager approved the vacation request. Once I received the vacation approval, my husband and I proceeded to pay for the trip. Need I mention this trip was paid for three months in advance? In the middle of May, upper management located a store for me to transfer to and process the paperwork once they received my submission for the transfer.
