Safety is a top priority at Union Pacific. From 2002 to 2012 the employee report injuries were reduce by 58%, railroads crossing injuries where reduce by 15% and safety technology which was also reduce by 15%. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, railroads have the lowest employee injury rates than any other form of transportation. The company work with federal, state and local law enforcement to promote safety and reduce collision at railroad crossing. Union Pacific continue to work toward new technology and better solutions in order to decrease derailments and enhance safety. Their overall goal is to have zero accidents and zero injuries.

At Union Pacific, we reduced employee reportable injury rates by 58 percent from 2002 to 2012, celebrating the lowest reportable injury rate in our history and moving us one step closer to our goal of zero incidents and zero injuries. We are proud to have an exceptional safety record in what is already the safest industry for ground freight transportation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, railroads have lower employee injury rates than most other modes of transportation and major industry groups, even grocery stores.
