The Library as an Information System

A library makes an excellent information systems model. It serves as a very large information systems model. It serves as a very large information storage facility with text, audio, and video data archives.

a. Input – “Pertaining to a device, process or channel involved in the insertion of data into a data processing system.” (O'Brien, 2008). Input of Data Resources, data about business transactions and other events must be captures and prepared for processing by the input activity. Input typically takes the form of data entry activities such as recording and editing. End users usually enter data directly into a computer system or record data about transactions on some type of physical medium such as a paper form. This entry includes a variety of editing activities to ensure that they have recorded the data correctly. Once entered, data may be transferred onto a machine-readable medium, such as a magnetic disk, until needed for processing.

* Examples of Input for a Library System would be Authors, Titles and ISBN Numbers; referencing tools.

The resources put into the Library would be the input, this includes books, journals, papers. Whatever resources are needed in order to search and investigate
