Following Up With the Research: Coping with Child Sexual Abuse

Upon conducting my interview with Dr. Angie Alley who conducts group’s sessions for victims of child abuse at “Beyond Sexual Violence: The Healing Place.” I was able to gather more information that supports my research for the most part. What follows is a narration of some of the data I collected during my interview.

Child sexual abuse leads to many pathways, some might be positive while other might be negative. The trauma that follows the abuse could be detrimental to some victims since some victims become the perpetrators after the abuse, some might commit suicide, while some might help others cope with life after the attack. Parents and family members are in much need of education about child sexual abuse in an effort to prevent and reduce kids from being exposed or victimized to such a horrendous crime.

Sexual abuses against children bring an array of repercussions to the victim and specialists opt to implement different coping techniques. The victims struggle for long periods of time to successfully manage to put behind the abuse, and effectively adapt to life. The ordeal is not an easy path, but victims can reintegrate themselves to society and they can learn to trust others. Children’s sexual abuse attracts predators to under-developed countries in order to freely engage sexually with minors and taking their childhood innocence. Even when some countries have amended several laws that deal directly with child sexual abuse, some criminals continue their deviant sexual behavior towards a child.

Child sexual abuse tends to remain secret since the victims are young and usually do not report it. It is a crime that is perpetrated upon innocent kids who are not prepare to deal with the trauma after being molested.
