Abstract
The purpose of this literature review is to pull together peer-to-peer articles and expound on how good leadership skills affect a team/group of people. The paper explains in great detail on leadership and the qualities a good leadership should display.

Good leaders are shepherds, mentors, guides, teachers, and examples. A leader has many excellent qualities that are used to motivate, to encourage, and to build up others. Tomko (1996) stated that “It is important for a leader to act as a catalyst--to inspire or motivate employees as they work on projects (52). When a leader’s heart is filled with love and compassion, he or she will be able to improve the leadership skills of his or her followers. Leaders should always lead by an example. It is much easier to speak about being a good leader than living an exemplary leadership lifestyle. Therefore, leaders need to know how good leadership skills affect a team/group of people. “Today's most effective leaders place an emphasis on sharing responsibility, coaching, providing resources, helping people through change, and forming partnerships. A catalyst maximizes and stimulates the talents and skills of others” (Tomko, 1996, p. 52).
One of the most important steps to improving ones’ leadership skill is to first acknowledge he or she needs help. Leadership skills can be learned and developed. The self-leadership of a leader must be activated and shaped. The leader must be self-influence. Most importantly, a good leader is born out of being a good follower. “The most effective followers are persons who combine independent, critical thinking with an active attitude.
