Spin of the Syrian affair

The Syrian affair has caused many debates recently. Media and political leaders in different countries have various perspectives on this issue. Russian and Chinese's media want to protect their national profits. The US media start from the humanitarian perspective. In order to convince their readers, media and leaders use language to frame the Syrian affair and to influence readers' understanding of this issue. Finally, even though all the spin languages accomplished their goals, Russia and China failed to cover all the truth . US coverage, in contrast, offered the chance for its readers to explore the truth.

For the Syria issue, political leaders want to convince the public by using spin. For instance, the Russian political leader, Putin, used specific words to frame the Syria issue in order to give readers the impression that US should not intervene Syria. "Syria is not witnessing a battle for democracy, but an armed conflict between government and opposition in a multireligious country." " This internal conflict, fuelled by foreign weapons supplied to the opposition, is one of the bloodiest in the world" (Vladimir V. Putin, " A plea for Caution From Russia.", The International Herald Tribune 13 Sep, 2013). Putin used language to frame the Syrian issue in his speech. The emphasis on the conflict between the Syrian government and opposition and the use of the word "internal" perfectly divided Syrian affair from other external factors. The framework that Putin set, on the one hand, put the Syria affair under the Syria’s sovereignty, on the other hand, strengthens his opinions and influences readers' understanding of the issue.
