THE CURSE OF THE MUMMY

ASSIGNMENT 1 ESSAY

In the case of the curse of the mummy many terrible event occurred after the discovery of King Tut’s tomb. Legend states that anyone who dared to open the tomb would feel the wrath of the mummy. Many believed that mummies were associated with having magical powers. Some mummies were grounded into fine powder. The hype began in 1923 when Lord Carnarvon, digged up King Tut’s Tomb, and died shortly thereafter. He was bitten by a mosquito on the cheek and started to feel ill. It became infected and he suffered a high fever and chills. He was later seen by a doctor, but it was too late Lord Carnarvon died. At the exact moment the lights mysteriously went out. When Carnarvon died, the story of his death spread throughout the media. It was said that King Tut wanted revenge and announced a mummies curse, which targeted anyone who entered the tomb. Out of all the stories only two remained prominent. One of the stories is that a Cobra killed Howard, Carter’s pet Canary after the discovery of King Tut’s Tomb. The other story is that the dog howled and dropped dead at 2:00 am in the morning, but Howard Carter lived a decade after the discovery. After all he was the first to enter the tomb. New findings show that it may have been a type of bacteria that was found on the wall of the tomb. It was said that the bacteria would release spores into the air causing those that entered the tomb to become ill and die. This could have been what killed Lord Carnarvon, or he could have just not been in his best of health. There is evidence that intruders did locate and enter to the tomb shortly after King Tut’s death; however there was discovery of much more damage that was done. Lord Carnarvon did die 7 weeks after entering the burial chamber giving rise to the theory of the “Curse of King Tut.
