“Proportion and Effectiveness of Employer Tests for Campus Recruitment”

Executive Summary

A primary research has been conducted through online surveys to compare the proportion and the effectiveness of the employer tests used in different categories of B-Schools by the employers during campus recruitments. As a research finding it can be concluded that 3 major types of employment tests are used in all B Schools namely- Aptitude Test, Knowledge and Skills Test and Personality Tests. The proportion of employer tests for Tier 1 and Tier 2 B-schools for Campus Recruitments is almost same. A significant difference has been observed in the proportion of employer tests for Tier 2 and Tier 3 B schools.

The skills tested at Tier 1 B-Schools by the employment tests are much more relevant compared to the skills tested at Tier 2 and Tier 3 B-Schools. For Tier 1 B-schools, almost half of the respondents feel that up to 60% of the skills tested in the employer tests are used on the job. Whereas for Tier 2 B schools, two- third of the respondents feel that up to 45% of the skills tested in the employer tests are used on the job. For Tier 3 B-schools, more than half of the respondents feel that up to 40% of the skills tested in the employer tests are used on the job.

There is no significant difference in promotions given to the employees and the amount of time period spent at the organisation by the employees receiving a good score on the employment tests in any of the B-School categories.

The additional training required by Tier 1 and Tier 3 B schools after joining is significantly different. This highlights the effectiveness of the employer tests which is more in Tier 1 B schools compared to Tier 2 and 3.
