Task 1 – A

The attitude that Company Q currently has in regards to social responsibility is to put the profits of the company above all else.

This includes their reputation and relationship within the community, with their customers and even with that of their employees.

They needlessly throw out and waste food that could be donated to help the community, the desires of their customers are ignored by them refusing to keep in stock requested merchandise and they do not keep needed stores open to their customers in the community.

Task B

My recommendation for Company Q to improve this attitude toward their social responsibility would be to educate them on the importance of social responsibility and how it affects their bottom line both directly and indirectly. According to the philosopher Norman Bowie, “focusing on profit alone can create an unfavorable paradox that causes a firm to fail to achieve its objective.”

The recommendations to help Company Q achieve a better attitude toward social responsibility would be as follows:

1. Donate the food that is being thrown away and wasted to the local food bank. This will improve the opinion on how the community views Company Q’s role and will Company Q be seen as a partner in their community not just another business. To reduce the worry over employees stealing food and fraudulently saying it was then donated, procedures and guidelines need to be put into place to reduce this such as: listing specific products that are on the donated list, and guidelines of specific dates that need to be on the products before they can be donated etc. Followed up by approval by supervisors on a daily basis.

2. Recognize the wants and needs of their customers by providing the type of products their customers are looking to purchase. More precisely, stock additional organic and healthy foods their customers have been asking for. This will let their customers know that Company Q cares about what their customers...
