E-commerce (Electronic Commerce)

What is ecommerce?

E-commerce or Electronic Commerce is simply the act of trading in goods and services via electronic channels or computer networks such as the internet. It is generally the sales aspect of E-business. Transactions that occur in e-commerce typically uses the world wide web for at least one part of the transaction's life cycle. It is an effective and efficient way of communicating within an organization and one of the most effective and useful ways of conducting business. It is a market entry strategy where the company may or may not have a physical presence.

Technologies used in ecommerce:

* Mobile commerce or mcommerce - use of wireless handheld devices such as cellular phones and laptops to conduct commercial transactions online; used to purchase/sale goods & services, online banking, bill payment.

* Electronic Fund Transfer - efficient and secure transfer of funds from single individuals or entities to other individuals or entities across a network administered by banks; use of debit card for payments or purchase, direct deposit, automatic payments.

* Online advertising - form of marketing and advertising which uses the Internet to deliver promotional marketing messages to consumers; social media, email, mobile, online classified advertising.

* Online transaction processing(OLTP) - is a class of software programs capable of supporting transaction-oriented applications on the Internet; SAP business 1

* Electronic data interchange(EDI) - is the computer-to-computer exchange of business documents in a standard electronic format between business partners; done through a virtual private network uses standard data format that companies follow to communicate with each other.

* Inventory management software - a computer-based system for tracking inventory levels, orders, sales and deliveries; SAP Business 1.
