1. What do you think is causing some of the problems in the bank home office and branches?

I think there is a major communication problem with the staff; the employees should be up to date on when new co-workers are being hired, not only for the sake of the environment, but also so the older employees can help out the new ones and educate them on what they’re working with. Also, the constant rotation can make things hard to keep track of what each individual employee is doing (especially in this case of it being a bank, since they’re managing other people’s finances).

2. Do you think setting up an HR unit in the main office would help?

Yes, it would definitely help the situation they’re in since at the moment, they’re oblivious to what’s going on under their on roof; the HR unit could be the guidance they need to fix the problem.

3. What specific functions should an HR unit carry out? What HR functions would then be carried out by supervisors and other line managers? What role should the Internet play in the new HR organization?

Functions like doing regular activities for the staff to get to know each other better (being outside of working hours, of course), make sure every person knows what they’re doing in the position and be aware of the responsibility they’re being accounted for being in that position. Communication is key and there isn’t much communication in this office, so the HR unit can help create a comfortable environment in which the employees can feel free to express themselves among each other without feeling attacked for their views; they should be able to seek help amongst themselves in order to build trust and be able to work with each other without feeling like strangers.

Supervisors and other line managers should be a part of these exercises in order to everyone be in a common ground and there not being any aura of superiority; they should also train their workers better in the sense that they know what...
