CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

Every employee must perform their duties with outmost responsibility. It is their duty to be productive enough because the costing of their job will depend on the performance output. Not all employee has a similar traits, some are just waiting for the salaries but did not perform their task efficiently and some are doing well, so that there is a need for performance appraisal for them to be fair and transparent.

Performance appraisal is one of the most commonly used management tools in organization. It refers to as a performance review a method by which the job performance of an employee is documented and evaluated. Performance appraisals are a part of career development and consist of regular reviews of employee performance within organizations. Employee attitude towards work is a significant factor in employee acceptance and satisfaction of work performance appraisal.

Performance appraisal can help the employees to be more effective and efficient in doing their job. It serves as guide in developing career performance and in motivating the employees to perform better in their field. This can lead to a successful organization and productive people within the firm, especially to the government agencies who serves the Filipino citizens.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A Performance Appraisal is a review and discussion of an employee’s performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
