In recent year, Security and safety are essential for hospitality industries. But many of hotel and resort do not emphasis on these issues regularly. This essay is going to analyze about why safety and security are important in hospitality industries and how it is important in hospitality industries, it also show how to make sure the safety of the hotel employee, guests and property. It will also discuss about the Asia Pacific editor of Hotel and organizer of the survey Steve Shellum what he mentioned about.

Outline the two events

The MGM Grand fire happened on 21th November 1980. There are 87 people had been kill. This is a big event. In a real fire accident, smoke inhalation is more harmful and serious than flames. So most of people killed by through smoke inhalation. This is the third worst hotel fire accident in American history. The fire was caused by an electrical ground fault inside a wall soffit. After MGM Grand fire revealed that people found following this incident indicated that the fire would not have posed a threat to life if smoke detectors and a sprinkler system had been in place. Due to faulty smoke dampers within the ventilation duct network, the toxic fumes circulated throughout the hotel's air circulation system, accelerating the spread of the poisonous gases. Because of the MGM Grand and Casino have not checked their smoke detector regularly. There were not protected by a fire sprinkler system in the casino and restaurant. Because they were exempt from rules requiring fire sprinklers in areas occupied 24 hours a day. They think if fire happening, it would be quickly noticed by occupants and contained with portable fire extinguishers-despite the opposition of fire marshals. When the fire broke out in The Deli restaurant it was no longer open 24 hours per day, it was closed and unoccupied. Because of the two incidents, there was a major reformation of fire safety guidelines and codes.
