Executive Summary

Good companies produce good leaders and effective managers. Throughout this class, we were exposed to many different types of companies, managers, and leaders. Leaders are sometimes created in different ways, but we believe that in almost every company that we were exposed to builds leaders in a certain way and also hire managers based on talent that will thrive and gain significant competitive advantage. We accept as true good companies produce good leaders and effective managers because of the experiences and stories we have seen and heard at our company visits.

Looking back on our company visits, there is much validity on the statement we believe in.

Companies make good leaders through some characteristics that define great companies.

All of the companies we visited showed at least one sign of each of these characteristics that showed its ability to create and sustain great leaders.

Certain characteristics are visible in good companies that allow leaders to emerge in. Some of these characteristics include: Positive Branding, Tradition, Employee Development, Growth, Vision, Research and many more. These characteristics were visible throughout company development, projects, stretch assignment opportunities, goals for the future, and ability to sustain and move onward. Great companies provide an environment that empowers good leaders to succeed. They also articulate changes in leadership to meet the challenges of the future.
