Gender inequality, and other forms of discrimination, in the workplace are still major issues of concern in many countries, including Australia. What is it that makes these apparently impossible issues to resolve? Critically examine the implications, of this gender inequality, or other forms of discrimination, for efficient and effective work and management practices, in the ANZ as a transnational corporation, and/or the finance industry today.

This essay will critically examine about gender inequality. Gender inequality has always been a huge issue around the world in the past, it did got better in the past few decades but still exists. It can happen in areas such as education, work, political, etc. The essay would relate the gender inequality with ANZ Bank on the gender inequality issues they have in the firm and how they deal with it. Furthermore, there are discriminations other than gender inequality that are huge issues around the world.

Define Gender Inequality

Gender inequality is the differences in the status, power and prestige women and men have in groups, collectivities and societies. (Social science and humanities glossary) It is mostly women that suffer from this issue than men. In some countries, women still don’t have the right to vote and they are not even allowed to get educated. People think that women’s responsibility is to take good care of their families. This also relates to people’s opinion on women should be housewives instead of getting jobs. Nowadays, the number of women entering the workforce around the world is increasing rapidly. (Bennett 2002, p. 157) Gender inequality is the majority issue throughout the world, including Australia. So this clearly shows that most women that enter the workforce would not be equally treated. There is usually an imbalance in the amount of housework and childcare women does compared to men, even when both of them spend the same amount of time in full time jobs.
