Painting Reflection Worksheet

Visit a local art museum, or search the Internet for images of paintings created from the 1920s to the present day. Insert an image of each painting into this assignment, and cite each image consistent with APA guidelines. Reflect on the paintings related to the social and cultural events taking place at the time, and answer the following questions. Each response must be between 50 and 100 words.

The Spanish Civil War influenced the painting because the war had a deep effect on the artist. He used painting as a way to convey the pain and suffering of war. He used the Spanish Civil War in the entire series of paintings.

b. What social commentary do you think this painting is trying to convey? Explain.

The commentary is about mourning the dead lost in war. The painting is very dark and intense. It is an abstract look at the death and pain suffered by the people. The artist used this imagery throughout the series Elegy to the Spanish Republic.
