How to Drag Flick

Aim:

To teach experienced hockey players step by step how to drag flick within short corners in a hockey match.

(Hockey knowledge is essential and experienced hockey players should attempt this as it is a great skill to learn and use in a match)

Equipment:

* Hockey stick

* Hockey ball

* Turf hockey pitch

* Water

* Mouth guard

* Shin pads

Clothing:

* Team coloured shorts/shirt

* Team jersey

* Team coloured socks

* Comfortable hockey shoes

* Skins (if wanted)

Steps:

1) Make sure you have warmed up before the game and that you have stretched all of your muscles so that you don’t pull anything or get any injuries. And discuss tactics and ideas with the rest of the team.

2) Within the attacking circle push it into the opposition’s defenders foot which will allow your team to get an attacking short corner. (See note 1)

3) One of the attackers injects the ball to the other attacker on the top of the circle who is trapping the ball. (See note 2)

4) The person drag flicking beforehand should stand behind the person trapping and take 3 steps backwards and 1 step to the left while facing the goals so that they are on an 45 degree angle from the person trapping.

5) After the ball has been injected and trapped successfully the person drag flicking runs towards the ball on a 45 degree angle.

6) They then keep the ball on the end of their stick and take 2-4 comfortable steps into the circle. (See not 3)

7) While running with the ball they then get comfortable around the ball and in one motion they get there stick on an angle which they will be able to flick the ball up into the air while aiming at the goals.

8) Meanwhile the person who injected the ball is running to the nearest goal post just in case the drag flick isn’t executed correctly and they will be able to deflect it into the goals.
