1. The first two pages of the article discuss how multi-disciplinary research demonstrates that “‘learning’ is not a simple process of knowledge transmission from teacher to students,” but instead a development of a “personal understanding of information.” Reflect on these two conceptions of learning. How have you experienced both in your life, and what different kinds of outcomes have each had?

Basically, students study a subject through attending lecture, reading materials and books, learning by heart and reviewing for the exams. Most of the time, we learn theories, principles and concepts without really setting hand on it. I would say that it is “knowledge transmission from teacher to student” What if students could be given the chance to experience, compare between what we learned through books and what really happens out there and apply themselves? In my opinion, it would be much better. By that, we can have a real look on things, have a better understanding, enhance academic learning, thus would remember longer instead of just knowing the definition and then forget.

I myself had an opportunity to apply what I learned in university to my job at an organization. It was a year ago when I studied the subject called “Leadership”. I found it really interesting and wondered whether leadership could be ideal as stated in the book. At the same time, I was a member of AIESEC – the world largest organization run by student and decided to apply for becoming a leader of a project named “Global citizen” to have a personal experience about leadership and it was one of the most fantastic things I’ve done so far.
