Major issue/problems Identified.

a. The communication barrier between business department and IT department.

In Hefly , when a top manager who from one department try to explain their ideas on potential value they thought from their major perspective, there is a barrier that they can not translate their ideas to the language which can be understood by other department people.

b. People from the top level of the company do not have a clear picture of what is really happening in the bottom level of the company, which is actually the reality.

When executives were discussing an ongoing project, they actually don’t know clearly what is going on in a real shop, and why this project is worth to invest. One top manager made an invitation to ask them to take a tour to a real shop under their company. Although at last they did this tour, they look down they importance of this tour in the first place, which showed that they have a problem to know the real situation of their lower level shops.

c. When two departments are communicating, the point and bias are inappropriate.

IT guys were displaying a project which they are working on to business department and trying to make them believe it does have potential value to invest. They had better focus on the value, the numbers or applying and profiting process, instead of very technical terminologies or specific mechanical process.

Recommendations

a. They can hire consulting people or set up this kind of position to help departments to communicate with each other. Offer more training for their staff from all levels.

b. They should built a more efficient way to transmit the information from top level to the bottom, to let people from different levels know what is really going on from the company inside or outside.

c. When display the strategy or new project, they should put more focus on the process , benefit, requirement of enough details ,not too little or too much.
