1. What alternatives should Barney Rubble consider when addressing the problem?

Barney Rubble should consider going with Dupont as their quality is consistent with Kodak at a lower cost, but he must take into account the extra benefits that Kodak offers with the supply of film.

He should also consider Agfa as they too have the same quality as Kodak, but at a slightly higher price that Dupont and he should once again take the extra benefits into consideration.

Both Fuji and 3M is the lower costing than Kodak, Agfa and Dupont, so he should consider them for cost saving, but their quality is lower, although they meet minimum requirement. The extra service and maintenance Kodak offers should also be taken into account here.

He should consider weighing up the lower costing options for film supply and procure the maintenance and service of the machines to a totally different company.

He could also approach the lower costing companies and secure the servicing and maintenance of the machines and film supply from them at a lower cost by offering one of them the same contract that Kodak had for the past fifteen years.

2. Should Pacific’s supply policies allow for any medical staff personnel to control sourcing decisions?

Barney Rubble should not allow any medical staff personnel to control sourcing decisions as they are not trained in supply management and may only take quality and not cost

control into account when making decisions.

Medical personnel do not have time or the expertise to do the procurement procedures involved in securing contracts.

As Kodak has been the industry standard in the past, medical personnel may not know that technologically other companies have matched or even surpassed Kodak at some point.
