In my paper I will be discussing key factors about the following topics.

What cultural factors must U.S. sports franchises overcome to increase popularity abroad, how

can franchises ensure their products are appropriate for international markets & last but not least

should governments protect their industries by placing tariffs on imported products.

First, some key cultural factors U.S. sports franchises must overcome are for one we first must understand the cultural we are attacking. Research is key. “To successfully serve new customers, you must understand the cultural differences of their countries. Culture can include social structures, religion, manners and customs, values and attitudes, language, and personal communication.”(Nickels, McHugh & McHugh, 2013). It’s like learning a completely different kind of person from scratch. In the past, sports team would only recruit American athletes but now since they are trying to start marketing global they are scouting & recruiting foreign athletes.” which makes not only that team but also it might make that sport popular with that country of which these foreign players come from. Just like with any business wanting to go global they have to be willing to adapt to that countries customs and rules, for sports it might mean how they play the sport or the rules of the sport and the over all sportsmanship.”

(Elinberick November 10 2013). Another key factor is we have to see through the eyes of the people overseas. How would our sports fit into these peoples lives the way we want it to. For example, lots of our sports are different in names like soccer which is called football in parts of Europe & the U.S. This is a huge problem the NFL has with dealing with overseas people.
