Domestic Violence

My topic of choice happens to be Domestic Violence in relationships. Domestic Violence is a violent confrontation involving physical harm, sexual assault, or fear of physical harm. It also is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States. When people think of Domestic Violence they usually think of relationships. 85% of the victims of spouse abuse are female. Men can be victims also, but it is rare.

Most women tend to be abused daily and they don’t even know it. Domestic Violence doesn’t necessarily mean being physically/sexually abused. It could be anything such as emotional abuse, economic abuse, or even intimidation just to name a few. When in a relationship everyone has the right to feel safe. You should never have to worry about being abused no matter how bad the situation gets.

In my opinion Domestic violence and abuse are used for one purpose and one purpose only: to gain and maintain total control over their partner. An abuser doesn’t “play fair.” As I stated earlier they use things such as fear, guilt, shame, and intimidation to wear the partner down and keep them under his or her thumb. At that point I feel it is time to leave or get help. Unfortunately some people stick around thinking things will get better.

Most of the time people overlook emotional abuse when it comes to Domestic violence. They always think physical abuse is the only abuse that will hurt because it leaves behind visible scars. In all reality you can be scarred emotionally. Many men and women suffer from emotional abuse, which is no less destructive. Unfortunately, emotional abuse is often minimized, even by the person being abused.

After dealing with Domestic violence for so long you can suffer from physical or mental problems. Sometimes people even find it hard to move on. They tend to grieve on the loss of the relationship. At that point in time I feel you should take the time to remember who you are and...
