The Marketing Mix: Distribution Channels
Select TWO products from the list of product categories below and using the teaching materials and any additional research explain what you think would be an appropriate distribution strategy for them. In doing so compare and contrast the two distribution strategies explaining why they would be similar or different.
AUTOMOBILES – FORD
Channel Ownership – Ford is one of many car manufacturers that have more than one option for a distribution strategy. Many busy consumers are shopping online for their products including vehicles. Most consumers usually do research online prior to going to a car dealership so it makes sense that one option would be to by directly online. This would eliminate most of the extra costs that would be involved by selling through a car dealership.
Franchising - The second option of distribution is the traditional option which is distributing their vehicles through a car dealership. This option is through a franchise. Franchising is an ideal option because the local vehicle dealers are more knowledgeable with the local market and some consumers prefer to shop in places that are well known or via “word of mouth”.
In my opinion both the channel ownership and franchising distribution strategies are both ideal for marketing Ford’s vehicles. With consumers shopping online for more products, it would be wise for Ford to continue...
