You will never know when a natural disaster will happen. Who responds when a massive hurricane or flood occurs? Which economic system is the best solution for handling a crisis of epic proportion?

When something like this happens typically local departments are the first to arrive. For example the local government, police, civilians and fire departments. These people and departments perform search and rescues to aiding people with food, shelter or water .Usually organizations like the Red Cross arrive on site of disaster relatively quick to help ease the realization of the disaster or crisis and provide aid in any way possible.

(“International Responses”, n.d., paragraph 1) Depending on the country and the type of disaster, government agencies and military might be on the scene rather quickly. In the United States, we have an organization known as FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) that is designed to deal with these types of disasters. There has been much debate and some issues that have been addressed since the catastrophes at Ground Zero and with Hurricane Katrina. Some recent acts that have been implemented have been the Homeland Security Act and the Post Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act. (“FEMA/About”, n.d., paragraph 3 and 4.)

In regards to what economic system is best for handling a crisis of epic proportions; this would depend on the crisis. Both Capitalist and socialist would have it’s own strengths and weaknesses mostly depending on the crisis .A capitalist society would be able to act quickly and would have the resources and agencies in place to address these situations almost immediately. Even though using a Socialist system gives total control to the government, it offers the best solution for handling emergency situations because the government takes care of paying the people who work there so everyone can focus on helping the people in need.
