Aim for students to gain an understanding of: 1. the operation of the criminal law from charge to trial, conviction, sentencing and appeal; and 2. the legal safeguards for, and rights and responsibilities of, those involved in the criminal justice process. 1. 2. 3. 4. After successfully completing this course you should be able to: identify and classify criminal offences; identify, interpret and apply relevant statutes related to criminal procedure; critically analyse aspects of criminal procedure; and understand the role of discretion in criminal procedure.
