The Importance of Business Ethics
To begin, after reading the case study, my immediate thought about the company was that of failure in the near future. As many companies have entered the market for health products having such a negative attitude towards the customers that they would like to gain and the negative marketing ploys behind the sale of their products, I would strongly encourage Benji to not only deny the contract but to also report the company after turning down the offer.
Benji should not sign the contract for the position because of a few different reasons that were specifically called out in the case study. The first reason has to do with the overall dishonesty of the business. The culture of their business centers on dishonest dealings from the perspective of how they operate their business with their Suppliers as well as the public lies that the company knowingly allows their attorneys to publish about the company. When the culture of a company is good then the company would have no reason to practice dishonest business dealings because good business sense aligns itself with having a good corporate culture. When the culture of a business is good then the overall atmosphere of the company would exude a good will from the employees, the consumers as well as investors (Simson, 2004). In the case of New Gen Health Science, the unfortunate bad business culture could eventually lead to the demise of the company all together and so signing the contract would be a waste of time.
Another reason that I would discourage Benji from signing on with this business is because doing so would cause him to miss out on the opportunity to be employed by a business that exudes honesty on a daily basis and because of their honesty has led to 13 different awards and a heightened and loyal customer base.
