CheckPoint: Modern Challenges in Immigration
I chose Italian. I would immigrate to the United States. There are so many more
opportunities to advance myself in the United States. I can go to college and earn a
degree in order to make more money than I would in my own country. The immigration
process would be difficult because of the amount of money needed and the long process.
The only time that the United States government policy should favor certain kinds of
immigrants is if they are in need of medical attention they cannot receive in their own
country. Any other immigrants that want to enter the United States should have to go
through the legal process. Some of these people are poor and cannot afford to pay for
the medical attention they need.
Citizenship preference should given to the needy and most oppressed. The talented and
the richest should not be given preference just because they would probably come to the
United States and get richer. The needy and oppressed are in more of a dire need than the
rich and talented. I believe in the old saying “Help the needy not the greedy”.
Applications from no country should be given priority. Every country should be treated
equally. Just because it is a certain country, they should not be given preferential
treatment.
