What causes low morale?

The purpose of this survey is to look at some of the common problems individuals may have with employers that may lead to low morale and high turnover. The questions are pointed to get answers around how the feelings are toward the management and the organization. This brief survey will help management understand where some of its problems are and where it needs to focus its attention.

Appropriateness of survey questions.

The business problem of low morale is hard to measure, but can have a hard effect on a business unit if not resolved. The questions in the survey will give the employee a voice and will give management a chance to understand, or at least get a little closer helping to resolve the issue. The rest of the questions are nominal measurements and will help us understand where they need help.

Level of measurement.

The types of questions were selected to address the areas of concern for many employees. These questions and the type of question (nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio) are used to capture the feeling of the employees. Two of the questions use the Likert Scales of Interval Measurement. These are designed to get a level of “happiness” with these particular issues. Two of the questions will use ordinal measure to find out what specifically needs improvement. The rest are nominal questions and are designed to prompt a specific type of response from the person taking the survey.

Ethical implications to consider.

The questions that are chosen will look at the feelings of employees at a given time. To fully understand the morale of an employee and the department, the best would be to administer the questions at different times and look at the differences in the results.
