Discussion questions chapter one.

1. Business Research is the process of establishing objectives and then obtaining, through different means, all relevant information to help the management/leaders make decisions. A systematic inquiry that provides information to guide business decisions,: the process of determining, acquiring, analyzing and synthesizing, and disseminating relevant business data, information m and insights to decision makers in ways that mobilize the organization to take appropriate actions that, in turn, maximize organizational performance.

2. Applied research has a practical problem-solving emphasis. It is conducted to reveal answers to specific questions related to action, performance, or policy needs.

Basic research is also problem-solving based. However, it aims to solve more perplexing questions (more theoretical) or obtain new knowledge of an experimental or theoretical nature that has little direct or immediate impact on action, performance, or policy decisions.

Applied research: The questions that might guide applied research would be: “which compensation package, commission or salary, would increase the profitability of our company and which should we choose”?

Basic research: Question: “What influence does commission VS salary have on productivity”?

3. Explanatory: An explanatory study that tries to explain the reason for the phenomenon that the descriptive study only observed.

Predictive: A predictive study is used to determine if a relationship exists between two or more variables. When causation is established, one variable can be used to predict the other. In business research, studies conducted to evaluate specific courses of action or to forecast current or future values.

4. Reporting: A form of report. A reporting study summarizes data that has been collected. The data are often reorganized to make it easier to statistically compare and get a deeper knowledge of the situation.
