Economics in the Current News

Take some time to think about the ways in which your learning in this class relates to the real world. Has the knowledge you gained been valuable in helping you understand or evaluate events or policies? Are there any current events in the news that you can directly link to concepts or theories covered so far?

Learning economics will help you in so many ways. When studying economics you learn to gain a better and bigger perspective on the stock market, 401K (future investments), and other financial matters. These days there are so many individuals whom do not know how the make wise decisions with their money. A financial advising is kind of like a sales position where you are constantly trying to gather clients and convince them to invest their money. Through taking this class, I have learned that this field can be very competitive, and complicated, but you have to crawl before you walk.

In this week assigned reading, I read about Natural gas futures gained for a second day in New York as forecasts for colder weather in the U.S. Midwest next week prompted speculation that demand would increase for the heating fuel (Natural Gas Gains Second Day on Colder Weather in U.S. Midwest, 2013). I can remember the many times I tried to understand why my gas or electric usage would constantly get higher. When utilizing economic theory, this course focuses on decision-making that builds organizational value in a competitive global marketplace.
