Final Paper

What I learned in class was everything that I had heard about but never actually got to know more about in depth like food choices, the science of nutrition, dietary guidelines, cells, immune system, sugars carbs, fiber fats lipids, proteins, vitamins water and minerals, all of the subject were good to know about, it kind of opened my eyes even more about how are bodies are supposed to work and how we are supposed to take care of it. Everything to me was important to know because somewhere down the road I might have wanted to know more about a certain thing.

To me chapter nine “energy balance and healthy body weight” was the most interesting. I learned quite a bit when we were going over this subject, mostly on the health risks of being under or over weight. With that being said it was all about “weight control.” I was very important to know whether you have too little or too much body fat.

In the beginning of the chapter we started talking about the risks of these issues. For instance too much body fat could lead to a chronic disease particularly know as obesity. Which causes over fatness and adverse health effect, it is defined as a BMI of 30 or higher. Having too much weight was not the only thing that could potentially be unhealthy. The risk of being underweight could cause problems as well. They are the first ones to die during a siege or in a famine; this can increase the effect of a wasting disease. Wasting is the relentless loss of the body’s tissues that accompanies certain diseases and shortens survival time.

As we went further into the chapter we covered obesity on a greater scale and discovered was could cause it. Physiological, sensory, cognitive, post-ingestive, and post-absorptive influences trigger different eating habits which can potentially lead to that person being exposed to obesity.
