1) What is the best method for Edward to involve the brokers (users) in development of the new online trading system? Should he use a questionnaire? Should he interview the brokers in each of the company’s 30 offices, or would one or two brokers representing the entire group be better? How can Edward ensure that the information about requirements is complete, yet not lose too much time doing so?

As the project manager starts to build requirements for the trading system, Ed should really decide on what users to involve in the process. The users will play a part for the requirements since they are the ones that will be using the system mostly. The problem is with over 30 offices it will be hard to reach out to all users. The best approach is to find roughly one person from each office. This can be done by going to a manager and having them identify one person that can help contribute to the overall project. The reason to pull one from each office is this will give a chance for each office to have input. Once the users have been identified, there should be a questionnaire sent out to start getting ideas. Each location representative can provide input to what the system needs to be able to accomplish. Once the project manage has a chance to review the questionnaire’s then he should setup a meeting with all locations on a conference call. This should be a couple of meeting with all 30 representatives and then a couple with a smaller group. This will give a chance to actually speak with everyone to get an overall feel of how the system should be once completed. From all the notes, the project a manger will be able to gather enough requirements to be able to make this a successful project.

2) Concerning customer input for the new system, how can Edward involve customers in the process? How can he interest them in participating? What methods can Edward use to ensure that the customers he involves are representative of John and Jacob’s entire customer group?
