The Roll Over of Childhood Obesity

Celebrities have some type of influence Americans every day, whether it is about politics, clothing, food options, or everyday life choices. Their influence can be for good or for bad. Some celebrities use this great power for good by taking on issues and becoming spokespeople for certain organization such as Toni Braxton and her association with Autism Speaks (“Toni Braxton Named National Celebrity Spokesperson for Autism Speaks”). Other celebrities like Michael J. Fox has a commitment to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease ("About the Foundation: Our Promise"). To many females, old or young, you are a positive role model who embodies a respectable and driven lady. Beyonce Knowles, you have upheld a reputation of independence and self reliance of a woman that many individuals look up to.Being an influential woman who has taken part in the Let’s Move campaign− that was launched by the First Lady Michelle Obama to fight childhood obesity− you are the perfect celebrity to help the University of Cincinnati and our fight against the freshman fifteen with a campus wide flash mob (Let's Move).

My plan to fix the “freshman fifteen” is to expand the Let’s Move campaign to college students. The freshmen fifteen is a term widely used for weight gained by first year college students. We cannot allow the fight against obesity to end at adolescences, students need the encouragement during their first few years of freedom to continue to practice healthy choices. I have organized a flash mob of two-hundred and fifty students. September is Obesity Awareness Month so this will take place on Wednesday September 18, 2013. The time allotted is approximately at 12:15 pm while students are moving to their next class. The location will be on McMicken Commons which is a common meeting place for many organizations.
