1. Introduction

My name is Hans-Jan Slagter and I wrote this report about Samsung mobile as a consultant from Stenden University.

Samsung is one of the world’s biggest electronics companies. They create products varying from refrigerators to vacuum cleaners, but they are also one of the largest players in the smartphone industry. In fact they provide 33% of all smartphones within the the global market. These numbers suggest that Samsung is in fact one of the market leaders in the Smartphone industry, there are however many competitors of which Apple is the number one enemy. Apple provides 17% of the global market with their smartphone, John Paczkowski of AllThingsD cites a survey that Apple users are more loyal to the product than other smartphone users. Sinds Apple is already working on cheaper phones, this could be a great danger to Samsung. (website slate.com, 2014)

In this report we have looked at how Samsung can maintain its marketleader position therefor the problem statement is as followed: How can Samsung maintain its market leader position within the global smartphone market?

This problem statement will be researched via external en internal analyses. For the external analyses, the P.E.S.T.E.L method is used, the SWOT method will be describing the internal analyses.

2.1 The methodology.

This research report is based only on desk research. The used sources can be considered highly reliable since they are in direct contact with Samsung Group.
