Using wireless LAN technology, users are able to check up on the status of appliances throughout the home by calling up the selected programme, the operating mode or the remaining countdown time. What is also new is that appliances can now even be remotely controlled: Switching machines on and off from anywhere around the home is no problem anymore. Functions with a relevance to safety are an important exception. Consequently, it is not possible to switch on an oven, a steam cooker or a hob unit or switch off a refrigerator using an iPhone.
