Design Process

The software will need to be designed to the specifications of the business. The software will need to support customer tracking, purchases, points, customer addresses, and it will need to be able to organize all of this information so that it can be quickly accessed.

The software should be able to support the use of scanning bar codes, and be able to read the bar code off of a customers card. It should be able to immediately pull up the information that is needed for any individual customer in a quick manner. It should be able to pull up necessary details and have drivers to support the hardware that will be installed.

The software should be designed so that its user friendly and easy to understand. It needs to be created around the employees and the customers. The layout should be friendly and easy to figure out. This way a customer of all backgrounds can understand the information and easily check their accounts, check their purchases, rewards and other information.check their accounts, check their purchases, rewards and other information.

The software responsible for calculating and updating the POS and database is an optional extension of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service software. The software will provide for the creation of new customer accounts, changes to existing accounts, and updating Gift Card USA with daily point and account changes. The frequent shopper database will have greater functionality and better reporting functions then the existing databases. Novell is providing the addition of the improved functionality as well as creating custom interfaces and navigation to simplify the data changes and updates. The current POS server was purchased fewer than three years ago and it was designed with the intentions of upgrading to meet increasing demands.
