Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts

It was a beneficial lecture. I have gained more knowledge on not only the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts itself but also the requirements of Museum professions and Museum management. Although my major has no relations to Museum Studies or Art careers, open discussion on those who is involved to the Art realm is a new experience. Definitions of curator, register, conservator, preparator, designer, or educator in Art Museum are dissimilar to that in other areas. The job of the curator who researches and determines the purpose of exhibition and the educator who is in charge of helping the whole divergent groups of visitors to feel and learn arts in the museum have left a deep impression on me.

In the lecture, the term “Cultural consciences” with four fundamentals: art, religion, family and alcohol emerged as the speaker’s point of view on massive distribution of art to the society. Albeit my different idea with the lecturer about alcohol assuming that liquids cannot stand at the same position as the other three elements, it is undeniable that kinds of artistic expressions, together with belief system and family are essential part of every culture.

The Pearl Fincher’s website has multitude of pre-visit information with variable tabs such as Arts, Joins, Volunteer Guild, About, Special Events. Amidst those, I find the “Education” most interesting. All kinds of activities such as Art classes, Pen and Paintbrush Book club, Student art contest, and Free Family Programs are serving regional people of all ages, from children to adults.

Understanding art means having another means to enjoy life. Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts worth appreciation for what they have provided to the community: free access to art available to the residents of Northwest Houston.
