Strategies of the Research Process

When it comes to the research process, there are many steps that need to be taken. You need to clarify the research question, “what are you aiming for in your research.” In this process you will develop, progressively braking the main question into more specific ones. In the following few paragraphs you will read my findings of two articles that were found in the records management journal and also digital records management researches via the university library.

The first article I chose is from The Records Management Journal. The author had sent out a questionnaire/survey to several other records management companies and had those in charge of the quality program fill them out. Enclosed in the questionnaires were both open and closed ended question which help aide in the process. The main purpose for the research was to find out what motivated the other companies to obtain their certification and what benefits were there if any. The second article was from a research performed in Canada. This one focused on a different type of records management, digital. The InterPARES (/International research on permanent authentic records in electronic systems) is focused around 16 different teams that are concentrated on building solutions for accessibility of digital records in a variety of organizations.

Addressing the main research question in the first article, I found that this article mainly focused on; what types of certification do records management companies have. Also finding that is asked what quality methods they had for keeping records. From there they broke it into more, specifically what factors needed to be corrected and improved upon in order to obtain their certification. Also which factors went wrong and needed improvement based on prior audits, as well as what were motivators for the other organizations to obtain their certifications and the difficulties they faced.
