First published in 1892, "The Yellow Wall-Paper. A Story" is story of a woman whom is tormented by chronic depression, sadness and loneliness. The woman in this story is not only suffering from chronic depression but is in a torn marriage with a physician who belittles her thoughts of superstition as well as her illness. As the story unfolds we begin to see the narrator growing more lonely and insane. She also begins to grow increasingly fond, yet terrified by the yellow wallpaper in the nursery she is staying. As we begin to conclude on an evaluation of "The Yellow Wall-Paper. A Story," we will look at; the narrators husband John and his feelings towards his wife and her illness, most of all her insanity regarding the yellow wallpaper and we will also include what others think of "The Yellow Wall-Paper. A Story."

The story begins with the narrator sharing with the audience her feelings regarding her husband John. She recalls John not believing her in respect to her illness by saying, "you see he does not believe i'm sick!" She speaks of John telling his friends that his wife isnt sick but is just going through "temporary nervous depression-a slight hysterical tendency." Although she tells of her husband not believing her illness she also talks of him and how "caring and loving" he is. It seems almost as if she is ambelevant regarding her husband John and this being said I'm unsure whether or not she is even an honest narrator. Soon her husband demands that she is getting better towards the end of their lease on there new house. He assures her that they will take time away and travel for a few days and tells her "really you are better dear." She retorts by telling him "better in body perhaps." This is where we can see that the narrator is slowly becoming more and more mentally ill and that she herself realizes this. The narrator portrays her own insanity well by hiding her true thoughts from her husband.
