Hunted

The Most Dangerous Game falls under literary fiction due to the fact that Rainsfords apprehension of the animals feelings changes over the course of the story. The significance of the story is that Richard Connell made people question the nature of violence, cruelty and the standards of hunting for a sport. The Most Dangerous Game is a classic short story that has been around for quite a great time. A discussion that has always been brought up is whether this story falls under literary fiction or commercial fiction. Well, there is no wrong answer to what one believes this story falls on but with exploration done there is a strong opinion on what the answer is. Literary fiction has the most support fallen under this story. It has a great moral in the story that gets the reader to understand what the concept of the story was and to get a better understanding of the story.

To start off, the most important detail that one must know is the point of view Rainsford has about hunting animals. “Who cares about how a jaguar feels?....Blah! They’ve no understanding” (8). Rainsford and Whitney were having a conversation over hunting jaguars and she mentioned how it is only a great sport for the hunter and not the huntee. He then mentions how the feelings of the huntees which are animals do not matter and that the hunter is the only one that one should be concerned of. This proves that Rainsford is being naïve and arrogant over the way the animals feel about being hunted.

The journey on Rainsfords change starts when General Zaroff . “I have played the fox now I must play the cat of the fable” (21). This indicates how Rainsford has actualized that he is the huntee in this situation. Rainsford has always played the part of being the hunter but now he has to manage to survive as he will be the one hunted down. So that’s when Rainsford takes all the knowledge he knows about hunting or being hunted in his case...
