Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death along with cardiovascular disease. In the United States alone 8.3% of Americans of all ages have Diabetes, which makes for 26 million people in the US.

In 2014 the Center for Disease Control estimated that about 40% of Americans will develop Diabetes in the next few years.

Diabetes affects people from all over the globe, but is more prevalent among Hispanics, Native Americans, African American and Asians/pacific Islanders. As a matter of fact Diabetes will soon be considered a pandemic among Hispanic and Native American population.

Many authors have described the singularities of the northern border region in the US, as rich mix of ethnic groups that create a unique environment, different from the rest of the US.

With this survey the researchers seek to obtain key information that could help us identify some of the risk factors present in US states and the southern cities along the Northern US-Mexico Border. (California, Arizona, New, Mexico, Texas)
